If the Au Pair stays with a particular Host Family for 12 months, she is entitled to 2 weeks minimum paid vacation. If the Au Pair stays for less time, this period is to be determined pro rata. The Host Family should talk with the Au Pair their holiday schedule as early as possible once she has arrived. The Au Pair is also entitled to have public holidays as free days and get paid normally. Au Pairs appreciate the opportunity to return home at Christmas.
If the Host Family goes on holiday, they invite their Au Pair and she accepts, she has to be paid the normal weekly pocket money and the Host Family should respect her workings hours. The Host Family must give the Au Pair the schedule of her duties during the holiday in advance.
If the Host Family invites their Au Pair but she refuses the invitation, they do not have to pay her for the time they are away even though she stays at home.
If the Host Family does not invite their Au Pair to go with them, they has to pay her, regardless she stays at home or not.
If the Host Family plans to take their Au Pair with them on holiday outside the EU, they shall find out if she will need a visa.
